Walk91 – The Premium Difference: Personalised, Not Packaged

When you’re planning your Great Ocean Walk adventure, you’ll see plenty of “all-inclusive” or “pack-free” walking holidays. But here’s the truth: not all walking companies are created equal.

Local Insight from Walk91
This guide is written by the Walk91 team, locals based in Apollo Bay who live and work on the Great Ocean Walk. We support walkers on this trail each walking season and share practical, first-hand knowledge to help you plan safely and confidently.

At Walk91, premium means care in every step — not fancy hotels or fixed itineraries.
We design every Great Ocean Walk tour around you, offering the flexibility, support, and local knowledge that only a truly local, family-run business can provide.

🌿 Accommodation & Itineraries Designed Around You

Every walker is unique — and your Great Ocean Walk should be too.

We don’t have set contracts or exclusive agreements with accommodation providers.
That means we choose each stay with your interests at heart — not ours. Whether you prefer rustic charm or modern comfort, we’ll match you with the perfect “home away from home.”

Options for Every Walker

  • Campers: Immerse yourself in nature with campsites in Cape Otway National Park (see our Top Campsites on the Great Ocean Walk guide).
  • Comfort Seekers: Rest in cosy cottages, farmhouses, or modern lodges surrounded by birdsong and bush.
  • Stay-Put Walkers: Base yourself in Apollo Bay and let us handle your daily transfers.
  • Explorers: Move between accommodations, enjoying new views and locations.

From a 3-day 12 Apostles walk to a 10-day Great Ocean Walk, we craft flexible itineraries that suit your time, fitness, and comfort preferences.
And if you already have a vision in mind — a group trip, a slower pace, or a mix of camping and accommodation — we’ll make it happen.

Real-Time Support — Because Things Can Change on the Trail

Nature doesn’t always follow a plan, so neither do we.

If the weather changes, or you’d prefer a shorter day, that’s fine.
Every itinerary includes optional exit points so you can adjust your walk safely.

Over 20 years, we’ve developed a real-time tracking system that helps us monitor walking pace and arrival times, ensuring:

  • Minimal waiting for pick-ups
  • Your luggage arrives when (or before) you do

Our local drivers are Apollo Bay locals who know every tide and trail. Some have worked at Cape Otway Lighthouse, others run nearby businesses — and one driver’s great-grandfather even helped build the Great Ocean Road a century ago.

Walk91 isn’t just a tour operator — we’re your local support crew on the trail.

Sustainability at the Heart of What We Do

For us, premium also means responsible.
We plan every walk and every meal with care for our environment and community.

  • Homemade meals, using produce from our own garden and local growers whenever possible.
  • Zero waste practices — we compost scraps, share leftovers through the community food bank, and even feed our neighbours’ chooks
  • Community giving — each walker receives a laminated local information guide, with proceeds going to Landcare Apollo Bay
  • Proud supporters of Shane and Lizzie Cork’s Conservation Ecology Centre and Wildlife Wonders, helping to protect local habitats and wildlife

Because sustainability isn’t just a policy — it’s a promise.

Local Knowledge That Keeps You Safe

Our founder, Mark Kininmonth, isn’t just a tour operator — he’s a former Parks Victoria Ranger who helped build sections of the Great Ocean Walk over 20 years ago.

  • Walking poles or a Telstra phone if needed
  • An emergency beacon for your group
  • Insider tips on hidden coves, rest spots, and local stories

Each morning, you’ll also receive a short daily video from Mark, sharing weather insights, safety reminders, and track highlights — exclusive to Walk91 guests.

Very fit hikers can choose a 4-day complete walk, and we can also design custom itineraries to match your time frame, fitness level and interests.
