I heard about you from the Parks Victoria brochure and thought your itinerary was planned perfectly. I can’t think of anything to improve the package and the walking experience, everything ran smoothly. The accommodation was excellent, just keep it as it is.
The drivers gave us very good advice for each day’s walk which made it easy to know when to avoid the beach walks, where the slippery areas would be and exactly where he would pick us up.
The walk is brilliant, I would recommend it to anyone.
Book through Walk91, it takes the stress out of organizing a walk.
We had a major incident on our walk when one of our party had a heart attack the second day. I would like to thank Walk91 for the professional and calm way they helped us deal with the situation.
Regards,
Trevor Kennedy
Thanks very much for putting together a great self guided itinerary. We heard about Walk91 on the internet via walking holidays in Australia google search.
We thought the itinerary was very well laid out and planned and appreciated the attention to detail for each day in regards to the grading of the walk, distance, drop off and collection points, accommodation for each night and catering.
The only issue that we would recommend is that the pick up from Apollo Bay for the 21.6 km walk should have been at 8am rather than 8.30….
We found the walking notes and maps a great reference each day on the walk. They were very well used each day. We found the meeting spots easily using the walking notes and especially the Parks Victoria map and Mark’s pre-walk talk
The accommodation providers made us very welcome and we enjoyed the packed lunches.
The walk was great – challenging in parts, especially day 3, graded hard in the notes with all the steep uphill and downhill. We were rewarded with fantastic views of the landscape and ocean.
There appears to be a lot of regular maintenance of the track. Distance markers would be useful. This would have allowed us to gauge how we were tracking in relation to making the pick up times. On two of the days (day 3 and 4) we did feel a little pressured to keep going and would have enjoyed the opportunity to walk at a more relaxed pace and linger longer at some points. On those two days we arrived at the pick up point ahead of schedule and so felt that we had walked a little faster than we actually needed to. If there were distance markers that would have helped.
I enjoyed my walk, very much. Also today 4 weeks later, I remember every day some of these wonderful pictures or feelings or something what happened during the walk….
I was really happy and satisfied with everything. Your support via mail and the evening before was very good, I felt well prepaired. The accomodation war wonderful, the ecolodge and ..the B&B.. as well. The driver were… reliable. I loved the food and also the weather with its changes, it was never hot.
Thank you so much for supporting me with all my questions and doubts. It was a very great experience!!! I recommend and I would choose again!
Dr Martina Aßmann explores Wreck Beach
We enjoyed our walk very much – thank you for organising it for us…
Very helpful consultative and good suggested options, very good food at B&B, amazing lunches & fantastic – friendly hosts.
For Aussies probably the first half day (with the exception of seeing the seal colony at Marengo) and second day was like walking in any Australian bush so not spectacular – but coastline was great as expected- we especially loved the sections walking along the top of the cliffs and down on the beaches, also the rainforest bits and parts where we walked through canopies of trees overhead.
Our comments for Parks Victoria -signage – just more simple GOW –> signs – particularly on the inland part to Cape Otway Rd.
I loved seeing an echidna, but sadly did not see many koalas…. watch out for snakes – I saw 2 small viper-types and a red belly black and another group of walkers saw tiger snakes.
My friends Judith Bremer, Susan Mitchell and I recently did the Great Ocean Walk with you guys (7-12 April). Firstly I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our time down there and wanted to compliment you on your organisation of the accommodation and the shuttle service.
It all went really well. I wanted to do a very special plug for Andrew …. we wanted to let you know that we enjoyed our stay with them very much.
We felt right at home. The accommodation was great, the food was excellent and they are just lovely people who couldn’t do enough for us.
A fellow bushwalking club friend of mine had done the walk with you guys a couple of months ago and recommended it.
The itinerary you planned for us was great, I don’t think the days could have been planned any better… ☺
The cabins were great, almost brand new and very comfortable. Our only complaint was that the flies were impossible! The walk was absolutely beautiful, fantastic that Parks Victoria maintain it so well.
It would be great if Parks Victoria supplied more seats!! Our tip is, just enjoy!
Thanks so much to Nancy for organizing and then re-organizing our accommodation!
We Googled self-guided Great Ocean Road Walk and Walk 91 came up along with a couple of other sites. We chose Walk91 because you were a local Apollo Bay company and your itinerary met our needs perfectly.
Our itinerary was excellent – we couldn’t have asked for a more informative itinerary with each section clearly explained.
Not a lot could have been done to improve our walk! The entire experience and package was well put together. Only small comment was that the map was large so we had photocopied each day’s section for ease of reading, marking and following.
All accommodation was excellent. Eco Conservation Lodge was fantastic as was the B & B and the shuttle drivers made it very clear where to meet.
The walk itself was amazing. Scenery and views from advantage points were spectacular as was the birdlife and other wildlife.
To improve the walk Parks Victoria could add some interim markers for distance would help – i.e. halfway along a section it would help to know there was 5 km to go etc.
Our tip is go and do it – and enjoy. Be careful of Day 5! Good sunhat, sunscreen and compression skins are essential as is about 2 litres of water each day!
We found walk 91 on Google, when I was researching the great ocean road and walks.
The itinerary was easy follow for newbies….I don’t think you could have improved the walk and the itinerary, it was great!
The B & B’s that you had organized were fabulous, our hosts were terrific and the food amazing, nothing to improve on.
It was a lot easier finding the meeting spots than I thought it was going to be.
The walk itself was fabulous, really enjoyed it, it was our first walk that we had done over a few days.
Both my husband and I really enjoyed the whole package you had put together
Thank you
We are back from Australia after a very refreshing walk at GOW.
It is very well planned: keeping the starting point Apollo Bay and final end 12 Apostles, skipping some km in the middle of GOW.
It was not a relaxing walk but exciting to see breathtaking views: sky, ocean, waves, beaches, sands, shells, animals, plants, flowers, starry nights.
We did not expect that few people on the road, but still felt in security thanks to well indicated signs, also the mobile phone + emergency phone provided by Walk 91.
Signs are mostly well indicated and the 1st day route briefing before going was very important. Generally speaking, it is nearly perfect, except that there are still few bifurcations without signs. Some signs show small triangular shapes with red dots on, instead of simple blue arrows. We wondered if we were on the correct route.
Water is more important than food during the walk, esp in the severe sun.
Good rest and enough sleep are essential after one day’s hike, ready for the next day walk.
Though it is extremely hot in summer afternoon, warm clothes are necessary for evening and early morning periods.
To repel the annoying flies, a small branch of plant help. Fly repellent does not work very well.
Along the route, we did not see any rubbish. No trash on the beaches, in the waters. Fantastic!
Walk 91 can design the GOW programme according to your pace, need and time.
Thanks again for your assistance in our GOW hike.
I was going to come across to the shop when we got in on Sat afternoon to say how much we enjoyed the whole experience but there was a queue for coffee (and we were desperate for caffeine!) then it was time to board the bus for Geelong.
From our first contact we got good information about the V-Line connections to and from Melbourne, quick e-mail responses to queries and always in a friendly, positive manner. All of the providers from shuttle drivers to B and B owners were so welcoming, enthusiastic and a great source of local knowledge.
I don’t think any of the walk sections were easy. Might be useful for Parks Victoria to give kilometre updates on signs for a better idea of how much further it was to destinations.
Walk 91 came up on my Google search. It seemed a reasonable price point in comparison to doing the walk independently and trying to coordinate accommodation and shuttle drops.
I have no hesitation in recommending Walk 91 to all of my friends.
Thanks again for such an amazing experience all round!
